89 4Runner A340H not shifting code 42

Hound me if you want but, I've looked and I need help. I recently got an 89 4Runner with shifting issues. When cold it'll only use 1st and 2nd when warm you can manually shift to 1st to use 2nd gear (only above 45 mph though). And in drive it'll only run 3rd and o/d. I thought, cool project. Bought new solenoids and a shift kit just for the hell of it along with a new #2 VSS which I assumed is what it was throwing a CEL code 42 for while running down the road.. since my odometer/speedometer still work, though the speedo is slightly bouncy. It was an original sensor so I didn't mind just replacing it. It has a mechanical cable with the #1 VSS in the speedo assembly and the #2 VSS on the driver's side of the transmission. Replaced the #2 sensor, installed shift kit, and solenoids. Bam! Works great, shifts like a beast, and chirps 2nd gear some corners!...... til it got warm....... still throws a code 42 connections seem fine and I can't find any breaks/wire tears..... assuming the sensor is good is there anything else I might be overlooking, completely missing, or even something that can pertain to my issues causing the same code over and over? Thanks in advance and I will apologize now for my ignorance and stupidity.
