89 4runner 3.0 to 20R swap.

so here's the deal: 89 4runner, blew the 3.0, pulled it w/auto tranny. have 20R and 22r 5-spd/xfer case. now my question is what would you say has to happen for that mated 20R and tranny to sit in that 4-runner nicely? just fab motor/tranny mounts? and yes, i know a 4.3 swap would be "easier" but me and my friends are all 20r/22r/re fans and i don't need the extra power of the 4.3. i've searched these forums and all i have found is people asking this question but only getting "forget it and swap to 4.3"

I think you are referring to the 3.4 swap. The reason that we are fond of it is because it requires very minimal fabrication to a vehicle that had a 3.0 in it, already.

That being said, it's your rig, do what you want with it.

For the swap that you are proposing, you will definitely need to fab new motor and tranny mounts, and you will have to address whatever wiring chaqnges that you will need to do between the body and chassis to the ECU (if the R20 even has an ECU!) Factory service manual schematics for both your runner and your engine (year specific for both) will help you tremendously.
