89 3VZE stalling and idle issues

89 3VZE stalling and idle issues
Hey y’all!
ive got a 1989 4runner with the 3.slow in it, it has appx 312k miles on it, just over a year ago the heads were surfaced and new gaskets installed. There was a new timing chain, new MAF, and supposedly a new TPS.
BUT...ive had this issue that when the car is warmed up, everytime I hit the brakes the idle surges pretty significantly too. Now recently (past week or so) It stalls basically everytime I come to a stop. And even more recently it does this think where I will be running along and if feels like all acceleration stops, but im still pressing the gas pedal then after a second its like it catches up to whats going on. At 55 mph thats quite frightening, there is also a strong smell of gas in the exhaust.
I hope yall can help me out here, im at a loss..
