88 shock replacement

I bought a set of Skyjacker 7000 for my 88 4runner. Removing the original rear OEM shocks was not a issue, but I am having a problem getting the new one back on the truck. I can get the about half way one, but I am stuck. I have tried a rubber mallet, soap, with the rubber bushings in and on the stud, but for the life of me, I can not get them on.

I have searched the threads, but have not come across any suggestions.

Any helpful ideas???

Grease works better than soap.

I thought of that, but I wanted something that would not leave a residue behind. Soap would wash away.

Maybe I'll try some lithium grease??

a bigger rubber mallet? re-use stock bushings? Buy different bushings?

I just replaced my shocks with Rancho 5000's and had no issues....I was surprised that nothing went wrong, no bolts broken, etc.

Lithium grease or wd-40?
