Question '88 Power Steering Fluid

The owners manual for the '88 22re specs Dexron II fluid for the power steering unit. Both of my original '88's 4x's & '94 4x have clear fluid. I am original owner & fluid is original. I was thinking about giving them a treat, like changing the fluid. thanks in advance

generally that dextron tends to turn from red to a brownish or yellowish shade after 20 years. i change fluid by sucking it out with a turkey baster with a piece of surgical tubing stuck on the end to use as an extension. suck out the fluid in the reservoir, add new fluid, start the truck, move the wheels from lock to lock a few times, and repeat until it's all a nice bright red color.

Yep, ATF w/ Dextron is what you want but I think it is up to like III or IV by now.

I put PS fluid in mine and the seals were old and it leaked.

I gave mine a real treat by using Redline ATF ! Seems to like it and the steering is a tad bit better.
