88 4-Runner New to me....but needs TLC

This is my new Toy, a 1988 4-Runner I just bought today. It has the 3.0 V6 w/ Auto. I know that this combination is looked down upon by most, but I took what I could get. I don't have much money left after buying her, but I am going to clean her up the best I can and I badly want to stop the rust she has. I will hopefully get money and time to repair the bad spots sometime soon. Any recommendations on inexpensive strategies to get rid of or stop the rust around my fenders? I have read every post that includes the word rust and still don't feel like I have any good ideas. Thanks!! Loving the site, but my wife isn't so fond of my new addiction!! LOL!

I paid $1000 for her, I am not sure this is a good deal considering the amount of "love" that is required to get her in good condition. Opinions??

Dash Lights Broken

My dash lights don't illuminate. I have searched this extensively on the forum and have tried the various ideas I have seen. I checked the stereo dimmer wire and I checked every fuse I could find (fuse block under dash & fuse block under hood). Any ideas??? It would be nice to know how fast I am going at night. Thanks in advance for the help.
