87 Runner Speed Sensor

Not sure if this is in the right spot or not,

but i recently bought a used eclipse navigation unit and want to put it in my truck.

my question is that, the instructions say to hook up this purple wire to the vehicle speed pulse signal. will my trucks speed sensor wire work? or is my truck to old to have the right signal wire... here are some pics and diagrams that i found, i think i should be able to tap into this wire and everything should work, yea?

what the manual from stereo says

diagram from FSM

another diagram from FSM

also what the manual from stereo says
