hey,
I have an 87 pu 2rec with an automatic transmission that will not shift into first at a stop sign or light. Its had this problem for 10 years and no one knows an answer for it. What I do now is manually pull it down into first just before stopping. This seems to get it into first when accelerating. It starts in second if I dont do this. My brother has the same prob with his.

Any ideas to what causes this?

I have the same problem in my 86 . I have to shift through all the gears manually,1st,2nd,then drive. I adjusted the throtle cable-didn't do anything. That's all I know. Hope someone out there can figure it out. Good luck.

 

Yea, sounds like shift solenoids. I had the same problem. Do a search on solenoids. I have posted a diagram of them somewhere on here. Any questions PM me
