87 4 Runner Transmission Problem

Hi all,
I have a 1987 4 Runner in here with a transmission that doesn't work. The fluid is pumping out of the vent on the top of the T Case. Do you guys know what is causing this? If it is a blown seal, can you pull the T Case and fix it without pulling the Transmission "as the book says"?
Thanks as always for your expertise!!!

Coyote John,
Is there oil coming from where the clutch fork is, if it is a manual tranny?
