86 Stumble/Missfire

I just picked up a 86 4runner with 90,000k miles, It has a really bad miss/stumble at anything above 3k rpms, I replaced the normal plugs, wires, cap, fuel filter. Sometimes its real bad and sometimes it doesnt miss at all. Wasent sure if this was something that happens alot on these things or not. It showed a check engine light for 5 sec then went away. Any suggestions would help

thanks

Try to pull the codes. Just because the light is gone does not mean it is not storing codes.

Iam not sure how to pull a code?? Filter is fine, ill check the o2 sensor and timing tonight, the exhaust is broke at the back side of the cat before the muffler could that cause it?? It is getting really bad now in 2nd gear you can smash the gas and it doesnt even sound like the motor is running its missing so bad.

I just checked the light and it blinks 5 times then stops for about 4 seconds then blinks 5 times in the same order and doesnt change. I checked the codes page and it doesnt have a code for 5, but the 85 codes say 5 is a bad 02 sensor or faulty ecu. i will be checking the timing tonight hopefully i can figure it out or iam going to sell it and buy a jeep
