Hello
New owner of a 1986 22re 4runner. Has a solid axle swap using some trail gear components, but not a complete kit. Included a set of Yukon 5.?? gears(one already assembled), several third members, spare trans and transfer case, etc.
Along with some body work, maintenance, etc, I need to lower this a few inches and could use some advice. Here is what I know:
The tires are 37x12.50x15 and need to go away ASAP. Please recommend smaller sizes to me. Looking at 35x12.50 but also considering 33s maybe even narrower than 12.50.
The previous owner said the front axle is from a 1981 truck, and the front leaf springs are from the rear of that same truck. (Ruf?)
The rear is lifted with blocks and what I think are the original springs. I think the rear upper shock mounts have been repositioned.
What I like to do is figure out if the front can be lowered with some combo of shorter shackles / different springs. And get new springs for the rear to match the front lift without using blocks.
Youre going to have to take more pics and measure the length of the springs up front. The RUF uses longer springs than the original fronts, and therefore have different mounting locations. So its not as easy as just swapping springs unless they mount the same distance.
hopefully you can get shorter shackles and tires, that will take the truck down significantly
If you didn't want a tall 4runner why did you buy it?
What DO you want?
Daily?
Mall crawler?
Maybe you should have bought something closer to what you wanted or a clean slate to start with.
those front springs look like TG springs. usually RUF springs have way more leafs. Can you get a measurement from eye to eye down the arch of the spring? What will help tell us what they are.
