86 22RE throwing codes 5 & 11
I picked up this pickup a couple weeks ago and have been chasing many gremlins... Maybe someone out there can offer some advice:
I've replaced most, but not all of the vacuum lines... new plugs, wires, cap & router... also installed a header as the exhaust manifold was severely cracked... in fact to call it cracked doesn't seem to do it justice. As such, I repositioned the O2 sensor to the end of the header, right before the cat. I used regular 18 gauge wire and soldered the connections.
The truck seems to run "ok" but I can tell that it is struggling... lacks power (my 81 can run circles around it) but is giving me about 23 mpg...
Check engine light seems to come on randomly and only stay on for 30 seconds or so. I've run the jumper to get my codes and it comes up with code 5 and 11.
I've read a great deal about the tps on other threads, but thought maybe someone would offer a suggestion as to where I should begin so I don't wonder off aimlessly.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated....
Stew

oh... yea... this might be important... when I got the truck, it ran REAL bad. I couldn't get it into 5th gear it was so weak... The timing felt bad and since I read about the knock sensor... i thought I'd just look at the pigtail... it was butt connected and when i tugged on it it slipped right off... I cut and soldered the wire splice and the truck came alive a good bit...
It really runs great down hill! lol... but any incline and I'm down in 3rd gear... It's really hard to tach it up to 4 grand under load... but in neutral she'll scream right up to 5k no prob....
ok... that's it...
thanks, Stew
