If it's lifted with big tires then that is somewhat normal "I think". I have a stock everything 94 2wd single cab with the 22re and I have a hard time going faster than right around 83 mph on the freeway. May be time for a re-gearing.

Electric fan helps, long tube header helps, larger AFM helps...

this truck was supposed to be ( still is ) a daily 4wd driver. I thought about the elec fans , header and AFM... also about regearing it. Not wanting to spend alot of $$$ on upgrading her. I am working on the AFM though... friend says he knows where one is , we'll see.

Start by removing any heavy ass tires and rims. If you have some fat Thornbirds (sorry) on 15x10" rims, it could have something to do with it.
I thought off this thread on the way home. It's really cold here and it helps my truck hit 90 (+5% GPS corrected). (22-RE, 31x10,5 BFG 4.11)

All the upgrades you are talking about will help you go 5 MPH faster, tops. To make any actual performance increas, you need to go camshaft, lce thin street header and then maybe intake TB / AFM.

First make sure eyerything is ok mechanically. For all I know you have a stuck rear brake pad. Go see if the balancer for the e-brake is moving freely, where the cable from the front enters and splits into 2 for each wheel.

Our 1987 5peed 22re we gave to our daughter recently, both girls drove it in high school, Steph drove it in college and has always wanted it... so after getting it running right, trans and transfer over hauled she got it...

Having said that, we owned that vehicle nearly 30 years... after upgrading to electric fan, header, larger AFM, and meticulous tuning... it will run 70 with the A/C on down I-35 all day long... on a steep hill you might have to down shift to keep the rpms up... but for the most part it gets the job done...
it will run 90ish on flat ground maybe even 100 with a good tail wind...
31" tires on stock rims

my '87, in stock form still, easily holds 65 (GPS) [75 on the speedo], and will go faster if i want to. in 5th. running 31/15s. on stock rims. no lift. no performance mods. still have the EGR, cat, etc. 183K miles and counting. my daily driver. not flat ground, either, in central NH. but on my western US trip in 2016, i ran it at 75 mph in utah.

so, yours has something not working correctly, or several somethings. it will do 65 when everything works properly.

Is the rear free spinning if there is no brake applied? Jack it up quick under the diff and spin the tires per hand.

welllll ok... drove the gutless wonder to work tonight. she did better than she has, still no balls, and only 70 mph... but 4th and 5th gears are useable again. I got to bleed the brakes again in the morrning, but overall decently happy with her... I gotta keep in mind its a 4cyl, not the 454 i've been driving, and its not a speedy anything, but what i need to get back and forth to work and beat around in... apperciate all the replys...
