5.71 gears and 8 inch spool?

I wanna get 5.71 gears for my 91 4wd pickup. I am running 37 inch baggers. I would like to put a spool in my back rear end. Is there a spool out there that will work with the 5.71 gearing?

probably but 5.71 are rumored to be weak due to the pinion being incredibly small. i have heard that only 2 teeth engage on this gear set compared to 3 on the 5.29's. with a locker it might spell disaster for the gears. the spool should be a drop in with whatever gears unless you have the factory 4.88's than im not so sure

The 4 cyl truck has a spool with 45mm journals and the V6 trucks take a spool with fatter 50mm journals.....the spools can be found all over the place.
Also, make sure you have someone that knows how to install those high performance 571 ratio gears for long life.

I do know there weaker but I thought with 4 cylinder it wouldn't be to hard on them. I am mostly wondering if the ring will bolt on to the spool. That is the question I should of asked.

Big tires and low range gearing will put a lot of stress on any set of gears. The 4 cylinder is not much less powerful than the V6.

If you buy a spool and gears that fit your 4cyl diff, yes they will, the ring gears are all the same bolt pattern and Toyotas don't have a carrier break like Danas do.

That said I wouldn't run anything deeper than 5.29's for strength reasons, prefer 4.10's in a full time wheeler.

i don't believe in the '5.71s are weak' bull****. i punished the living hell out of my 5.71s and they were just fine when I took them apart to extract the locker. let me reiterate, 5.71s with a detroit locker with 35x15.5r15 TSL SX's spinning the crap out of them on slippery rocks and mud. they held up fine. for the record, i had them installed behind both a 22re and a 3vz-e, beat them up on both, and never had a problem anywhere with it, ever. 5.71s are likely less forgiving to half-assed installs than a higher set, but saying they are weak is just spreading misinformation and garbage. mine were definitely not weak.

No argument from me, fork. Apparently, your 571 gears were set up correctly...which seems rare. Curious who set them? w

I'd like to know also. they came in the 4runner when I bought it, and I figured it was probably garbage like the rest of the vehicle so I abused it... and nothing! it came from somewhere here called waimanalo which implies low expectations. so i was pleasantly surprised when the entire vehicle didnt fall apart when i drove it back home

you can use a mini spool ( less exspensive ) and the stock carier. as for gearing you can regear the t case or use dual cases .

I bought a Spartan locker for my truck and the wife's XJ. I was thinking about a spool, but decided to test the Spartan instead because nobody around here had tried one. I love it for a lunchbox, and it's been pretty tough. Put one in a buddys truck with 35's, and no issues. He beats that truck like it owes him money

I have an automatic transmission and i had 33 inch boggers on it before and 4.88 gearing and it still didn't have any power. Whats killing my power the most is my automatic transmission. I was hoping it would of broke on me by now but that darn transmission hasn't yet. So if i didn't have a automatic transmission I would be getting 5.29 gearing for it.

And I've seen multiple trucks with perfect gear setups that didn't quit breaking until they had 4.10's and a high pinion front. But those are trailer only, on 38" tires with duals and owners whose normal wheeling is another mans hammering down.
