Where are you guys finding all these thirds with 5.29's?

I'd love to buy a set of thirds...Can't find them in Reno.

I have an auto, 33's and 4.10's. Trust me it's a killer combo. It kicks down to second going uphill, can't use overdrive or cruise control even in the flats.

I'd say go for it. The worst that can happen is you don't like it and you re-install your old gears, right?
Nearly anything that takes some weight off your skinny pedal when on the highway is gonna help your mileage... as long as the RPM's don't go through the roof. And the gears will also let the trans shift sooner and engage OD sooner... so like I said... the worst thing that happens is you won't be happy and will install your old gears.

Then you can sell the new gears at a profit to some other yotatecher.

But MAKE SURE YOU RE-GEAR THE REAR TOO!!!!
I say that 'cause you said you had leads on "front" gears.

You'll definitely get a better crawl speed with those smaller tires. Plug in your specs into this calc and you'll get a good idea of what you'll be like on the highway:

i called the guy back and said i'll buy the front diff... $250 and it comes with an detroit TruTrac. i thought about pulling the locker out and throwing it in the blue truck (it needs a locker real bad) but i think i'll leave it up there and just buy an aussie or lockright for the bluepoo. now i just need to find an open 5.29 rear...

the gear calculator in the previous post said that at 75 it'll be turning 3k..... i've already said before, i dont need a fast car, i do enough dumb with slow rigs.... 75mph is fine with me.

worst case i pull it out and sell it to my brother for his rig (35x13s with 4.56s)

update: i found a 5.29 rear with a Lock right for 250 bucks.... i installed it yesterday and omg the truck is a whole new beast.. (still need to put the front in) i have pulling power for the hills around seattle/tacoma area. my speedo is WAY off now, 22% as best as i can tell (5.29 - 22% = 4.17ish). i talked to Tacoma Spedometer and they said they can correct it but it will be about 150 bucks.. i think i will wait until i have 100% decided which tires i want to run. the more i think about it 33x10.5 BFG ATs sound real sexy...

cruising on the freeway at 85 indicated (66 corrected) i am turning about 2900 RPM.. there is gobs of power to pass while still in OD.. kick OD off and it shoot up to about 3600 and pulls hard. I am not going to say its a racecar but its a great improvement

I would think you'd be even happier with 33's. I have 33x12.5 on 4.88 with the 3.0 auto and I'm not real thrilled with it. Will be doing a 5spd swap someday, I don' think the auto is long for this world. I don't drive it much so it's not breaking the bank as of now.
I think 5.29's and 33's would do you well.

I have an LT1 with a g52 5spd, and ran 35s with 5.29s for about 30 minutes. Was painful having that much power on tap and getting up to 4-5grand (guessimation, yota idiot panel with no tach, but way past it's powerband) at around 70mph. Not to mention getting a couple thousand feet to the gallon. Though it was wicked fast to about 50mph. Now with 4.10s and 37s it's a whole different beast.
