4WD Problem & Unbelievable Fix
Just bought a '94 4runner for my son and found out the 4WD did not work. No 4WD and no light coming on. I could hear the solenoids clicking but could not feel any vacuum anywhere. I have been researching trying to come up with the answer, and finally found this posted by AZ4X4Runner in Prescott in one of the threads that came up in my search:
"If I pull the hose off the vac side of the valve and suck on it, the shift fork seems to have no problem moving the sleeve, and the front locks up fine."
I pulled off the hose for the actuator at the VSV valve and gave it a suck (Yeah I know) heard a faint clicking noise from inside the axle which was actually the sleeve engaging. Afterwards, the sleeve now engages going into 4WD and the light now comes on also. This has got to be the simplest fix of a vehicle problem I have ever had. Guess it was just stuck a little, or maybe the hoses were routed wrong at the VSV valve. However, AZ4X4Runner gets credit for a save.
AZ4X4Runner, here is your beer (if you drink)
Thanks, from Tucson
