4runner tailgate removal?
Hey guys!
Any one know where/if the main wire harness connector for tailgate is? My GF didnt set the ebrake when warming it up one day (5spd) and it rolled into a tree Needless to say. tailgate is junk, glass broke... done, so I'm trying to swap a new one on. All I see in or near the tailgate is a bunch of smaller connectors, and looks like it could take hours to fish them all out, and disconnect. I'm sure toyota woulda put a master connector in...right?
Btw... I did check the fsm, and it does not show where the connectors are(unless I missed that page?)
and....Its the 94 in my sig...

No they did not. You have to fish them all out.
I replaced mine due to rot. the hardest part was the torsion bar since the bolts get rusted and will not move. You have to remove the glass and the mechanism to get the big connector in/out. Also the left hand lock has the interlock switch for up/down in it. Just flick it closed so you can roll the window.
I think it took me an hour to do mine so its not that bad. Your busted one saves you time on the way out. I had to swap over all the guts, and fix the wiring too.
Its not hard (except the bar), just time consuming.

uggghhh.... Thats what I was afraid of! Seems kinda stupid that they wouldnt put one big connector in there instead! I know they did in the 3rd gens.... O well... I may just cut all the wires, and solder away instead...
Or.... Time to cut the roof, and go w a bikini top, and p/u tailgate! lol
