4Runner stalling in gear, help!
Hi all,
I'm new here and I have an odd phenomenon happening with my 92 4Runner (3vze, auto 4x4).
So, what is happening is the 4Runner will start up fine, idle fine, idle will go lower after warming up, and can run and rev all day in park. will run fine in reverse as well, once I put it in drive and put it under load it will stall out and die at around 15 mph after shifting to second gear in 2WD, or around 10 mph in 4WD and won't even make it to second gear. I have read up on other threads here about similar issues and have replaced parts that have fixed the issues stated in those threads. So far I have replaced both the coolant temp sensors at the read of the engine behind the plenum, have replaced the opening circuit relay, have opened up and cleaned the air flow meter and resealed it, and have run codes and it is not throwing any codes. I do not think it is spark or fuel delivery because it idles and revs in park just fine. it's just once it is trying to get up to speed it cuts out. vacuum hoses all seem to be ok except for the breather hose that goes from that box next to the intake into a tube at the front of the engine. I have that on order but I don't think that will be the culprit.
My next thought is the Air Idle Control Valve, PCV valve, the computer itself is bad, or maybe a solenoid or relay in the transmission? Are there any other sensors Im missing that could cause this?... Both mechanics I took it to in my town don't really want to mess with it. It's becoming very frustrating and Ive had a lot of time and money into this thing. Any insight or help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!
