4Runner/Roof Rack

OK, figured I'd run this by you guys. Anyone had any experience with the roof racks that attach underneath the removable top on the 1st gens? Were there any problems with it leaking or was it alright? I'm thinking of building one, but I want to be able to put my off-road lights on it as well. I was thinking a tab with a hole/nut welded on, and a bolt with a bar for the lights on it. And maybe a 4 pin trailer connector to be able to let the light bar come off (I have a 12 ft car-topper boat that I'd like to be able to put on the rack...), but does anyone know if there's a company that makes such a connector that would go into my roof and seal well enough to keep it from leaking? And how crazy/redneck-ish is this sounding?
