4.10's out, 4.56's in!!

Well, I have this week off of work, so I decided today was the day to throw my set of 4.56's I got off craigslist. Had to get them from 2 different people, but all in all I spent $220 for the gears. Not bad at all. It took a while, but thats mostly because I wasn't on a time table so I stopped for lunch, walked over to the parts store for some gear oil, etc.

Everything went smooth, but man, somethings are hard to put back together when you are working solo. My wife did help with the front diff. She pumped up the floor jack while I balanced the diff on it. Good work, wife!!

I have read all the folks on here saying regearing is a waste or you won't feel a difference. When I had 31's on my 88 4runner with the 3.0, the speedo was off, but I didn't feel much of a difference. The 22re, however, was a huge difference!!!

Thanks to everyone on YT, since this is where I got all the info to do the swap. From proper gears to buy to steps to do the swap, I wouldn't have attempted it otherwise.

I had an 87 22re auto before this one, and it was slow on the freeway with 235/75/15's. The auto tranny was the reason I sold it and picked up a 5 speed. I just ran it a little in my neighborhood over to the freeway and ran a loop back home. It was quicker through all of the gears with less foot into the throttle. I have to fix my exhaust leak before I get into the MPG's. My RPM's in 5th gear were about 300 higher then before, made it much better when I tried to accelerate from a cruise at 60.

For an auto with 31's you would probably like 4.88's.

No Lockers. It's my daily and had to scrape up the money just to get open 4.56's.

Well, we have this reimbursement account deal for our healthcare. Amanda and I put in a claim for all our expenses this year, there is enough money coming to get the full LCE exhaust setup. Header, great. 2 1/4" cat, sure (only 20 bucks more then a 2" magnaflow cat from Summit). Cat back exhaust, not sure its 389 dollars good. Might just get a flowmaster 50 or something similar from a local shop.

TOO MANY CHOICES!!!!

Here is a link to where they are talking about it https://www.yotatech.com/forums/f116...eed-od-113359/
Here is a link to a calculator http://www.marlincrawler.com/java/getspd_calc.html
4th gear is .71 according to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Toyota_...smission#A340H

At 3000rpm with a 30" tire (31" actual height) in 4th gear with 5.29 gears you should be going 71.25mph. This should give you good power on the street and highway
If you plan on ever running 33s you may want to get 5.71 as it is about the same as 31s and 5.29.

Indeed with Downey out of business, LCE seems to be the sole source. I've got 2.5" piping on my rig with Magnaflow muffler and cat. Me likey lots!

I am thinking about a Thorley header, but it makes a little more sense to get it from one spot, instead of paying 3 separate shipping costs. Then you know its made to match up with each other. Less surprises when your rig is in pieces.

yeah, man. Thats good thinking. I've done the whole, from this guy, this place, that source thing. Some work out others not so much. When I did the exhaust from the motor back, it just made sense to me to get it from one spot.

Thanks Ricky! But you have to remember one thing, I paid regular market price for my 4runner while you basically stole yours! When you coming up? I need to watch the junkers88/bigbluepile wheel off!

I might feel out of place at a RB4R convention.

It's been nice lately. The wife found some money in the budget for me to get what I want since I have been working overtime all year paying for her school. 6 more months of being broke. Almost there.
