4:10 or 4:11

I wanted to know if Toyota made a 4:11 gear ratio. I searched for a while and found some info they did. I also see things on sale in the classifieds with 4:11 ratio. I cant find a axle code on my 87. I looked all over I may be missing it.
Long story short I bought a 87 x cab truck on a 4runner frame and running gear. I recived the axles, tranny, and transfer case from the truck for spares and just wanted to make sure they didnt offer a 4:10 and 4:11 gear ratio i 87. Could someone please clear this up for me the search just made things more confusing I tried.

Thanks,

Jason

They did make 4.11's, but I'm pretty sure that was only in the earlier 80's years. Even if you did mix 4.10's with 4.11's I don't think its even a big enough difference to be a problem, .01. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong!

They switched to the 4.10 ratio in 84 so your 87's will both have 4.10's. Just took a quick Google search.

It might not be a big difference in 2WD, but if you had one diff at 4.10, and one at 4.11 in 4WD it'd cause problems.

nope, its within the allowable percentage difference to run. Thats how guys run 5.38's and 5.29's in the same rig. Offroad your not going to be running high traction surfaces and are allowed a little bit of give on ratio's so they are fine.

Yeah for example when people put a Dana in the front and can't find a matching gear for the Dana and 8 inch sometimes they're off by just a little bit.

If you had a 4.56 and a 4.10, or a 4.56 and 4.88 or a similar difference, that's when you start getting into problems.

I ran 4.10's in the rear and 4.11's in the front of an old 1/2 ton chevy I used to own. Never noticed a thing.

4.10 is 10 on the pinion, 41 on the ring for 4.10

4.11 is 9 on the pinion and 37 on the ring for 4.1111111111.....

You will not have any issue running a mixed set.

4.11 is probably quite a bit stronger though

The 4.10 you're getting some pretty damn small teeth on the ring gear ...

True, but 4.10's are still very strong. You could debate this just like people argue that 5.71 gears are weak because they are thin or whatever.
