3vze Head Source

The hg on my 93 4runner just went at 167k miles. I will replace the hg and want to replace the heads with remanufactured or rebuilt. What is the best source? I am trying to keep the cost as low as possible. I have seen some on ebay for $275 plus shipping.

Are any new components used? are they just re-ground and checked? Let me know if you have any good experiences with rebuilt heads.

Engnblder does not have rebuilt heads - he can do it but much more than the cheapest ones I have seen. I am wondering if the remanufactured heads are cheap because the are of poor quality and if anyone has bought any.

What's the reasoning for wanting a reman head?

Why are you replacing the heads? Typically, the heads are fine. I would take them to a shop and have them inspected and pressure tested. If they are good, have them dunked and brought to within specs as far as flatness goes and you are good to go.

I was thinking that since I was this far into the engine, the new heads would give me a few more years. I have about 120k on those heads.

I am short on cash - i don't know any good machine shops in my area.

what would you all do?

I have 300,000 on my heads. Put yours back in (assuming they are good).

Getting them surfaced and cleaned is probably going to be far cheaper than buying another set. Plus, once you've got the new ones, you'll have to find something to do with the old ones...
