Exclamation 3vze has something missing on left head?!?

I just replaced the head gaskets and had the left head shaved. When we tried to start it antifreeze poured out of the back of the left head. I crawled under the driver side of the truck and I can see a threaded hole in the back of the head but I don't remember taking anything off the back of the head. Does anyone know what is bolted on the back of that head? Please Help Me! I love this little '94 Pick Up and can't wait to get her back on the road!!

I'm not sure, are the core plugs a 10-12 mm bolt on the back of the head facing the fire wall? If so then that's what is leaking. It just pours of pure anitifreeze when I turn it over.

There are a lot of heater hose connnects back in that area also. And, one of the throttle body coolant lines connects in the back corner of the intake manifold right up against the driver's side head. Those connections could be the source of the coolant also.

Are you sure that it is coming out of the head, or just running off of the head? If it is a freeze or coolant galley plug that is missing/installed incorrectly, the head will have to come back off of the engine.

The threaded holes are not an issue, they do not go into coolant ports, unless someone rammed a bolt in there and cracked the head at the end of the tapped hole.

Good luck,

Mike

I dug through my pics, this is the best one I have of the back of the motor on the hoist. Wrong angle for the driver's side of the motor.

Here is the picture from the front. I believe that the heads are the same casting, but are machined differently. So, the plugs and ports you see on the front of the passenger side head are the same configuration as what you will have on the back of the driver's side head.

The only thing I can think of thats bolted to the back side of the head (facing the firewall) that's a 10-12 mm would be that small bracket which holds the small bypass tube that u see in the upper picture there... the one that goes under the lower intake manifold

Hey I have to check out the braket idea for the manifold. I hadn't thought about that yet. Looks like I got some work to do this weekend.
