I have a '93 4x4 3VZE and auto tranny. For the past month or so, I've been getting code 52 every few days, and sometimes code 12 as well. When the CEL comes on, I immediately notice a drop in power and increased sluggishness. Seems to restore itself somewhat when the CEL is off next time I start the truck (w/o resetting the ECU).

I have a pretty good understanding of what these codes mean after searching the forum. My question is, is it possible for these two codes to have a common cause such as a poor ground somewhere? I'm basically trying to determine if there is something to try before I start ripping the intake plenum off to track down code 52.

I had the same problem. I have a 94 4runner 3.slow with alternating codes 12 and 52. I did a complete ignition tune up (plugs, cap, rotor, wires, timing) and the code 12 went away but 52 was still there. I replaced the distributor and the code 52 went away and my mileage/power got a lot better. Hope this helps.
