3VZE Clatter at 2000-3000 RPM
I just got done installing a set of heads on a used block that had about 115,000 miles on it. The block came from a engine with a bad head gasket and the heads came from a engine that threw a rod. I have a clatter at around 2000 - 3000 rpm range. Its not there at idle and not consistent with rpm (doesn't get louder when revved up) , when I get above 3000 it goes away. I only notice when driving when I'm about the shift. I can rev it up under the hood and it sounds like its coming from the lower end but this doesn't sound like a rod knock to me maybe it could be a wrist pin knock? Its not the valves or injectors. Engine has a new oil pump, water pump , plugs, oil pressure is good, no carbon on the pistons. Runs good just wondering what it could be? If this was a 22re I would think it was timing chain rattle. Let me know what you guys think.

Can you post a video? What your describing sounds like a rod bearing just starting to wear out but without hearing it there is no way to know. If it were me I would get a budy and grab my stethoscope.

i just cleaned up misfiring, idle flucuation, idle sticking and various other gremlins all from my Thermo temp sensor being bad. Worth a look since it caused misfiring at its worst
