3VZ-E dynomax exhaust question

Is anybody running this exhaust on their 89-95 V6 truck or 4runner http://www.jegs.com/i/Dynomax/289/17418/10002/-1 ? Any opinions on it?

I just got mine in the mail 3 days ago. It is a great kit for the price, I really like it so far. If you are looking to have a loud exhaust I would go with something different. The muffler is a tiny bit louder than my old stock muffler with holes was, but the tone of it is way better. It sounds great, its just not loud. Since the kit is only $25 right now its a great way to replace a rusted stock set up. Since it is bolt on it wouldnt be hard to buy a different muffler and bolt it on if it isnt loud enough. I looked into this kit before I bought it so I wasnt expecting anything loud and I am very impressed with how it sounds. Make sure you buy the intermediate pipe, it is needed in order for the kit to bolt up to the cat, so really the whole kit is $50, but still a great price for a cat back kit.

Would you happen to have a sound clip? My factory exhaust is still good, but I just thought I would take a quick look at exhausts on Jegs, and I happened to find it. Was the shipping free?

Yeah the shipping was free, but there is a $12 processing fee. I also checked the price for this kit on 4Wheelparts.com and it was like $130 and then $30 for the intermediate pipe and then the $75 rebate ($85 total). So jegs is the best place to get this kit. I tried to get a sound clip with my phone, but it didnt sound rights. I'll try getting one with my brothers camera right now.

Cool man thanks. My only other question is, do I also need the intermediate pipe? Is that what connects the cat to the muffler?

Yes you need the intermediate pipe. It is what runs from your cat flange to the muffler. I tried to get another sound clip, but it doesnt sound like it really does. When I go pick my girlfriend up I'll get her camera, its a lot better than the one I tried to use so it will sound clearer.

Well I got a video clip, but it's not the best. I think the camera is picking up too much of my engine noise, but you can hear the rumble of the exhaust a little bit. You can especially hear it right when I started my runner before the engine noise picks up. Its not the best but its all I got for right now.

Here's a better one, I realized the mic was aimed toward the front of my runner. This video the camera is aimed so I dont get the engine noise. Oh and you get to watch some ants walk around while you listen.

Yeah it's a great set up. I was thinking about getting it before the rebate so when I saw the deal I had no reason to wait to pull the trigger. I'm liking this kit more and more everytime I drive!!! I'll get the ants this weekend lol.

Hi, this is my first time posting on this forum although I actually joined last year. I was just looking at this same exhaust system and I was wondering did it do anything to improve acceleration or was it just a sound enhancement ? Thanks.

With this system and using a magnaflow cat, will it still pass emissions testing? And if so, which magnaflow would one get that would be compatible?

Grizzly: this is a performance muffler so there was some noticable acceleration. It wasnt a crazy amount but it was there.

Desp: all of magnaflow's mufflers and cats are supposed to be legal in all states except cali, which means they should pass emissions. If you get the cat with the flanges on both sides to fit like the stock one does then yes it will be compatible. It would be illegal for magnaflow to sell a cat that didnt do its job because then they would be selling some what of a cat eliminator, their design just gives less restriction than stock style cats to improve performance.

Thanks for the info, did you lose any torque on the bottom end for more power in the upper rpms or was it good across the powerband ? Also, is this bigger piping from stock ?

Its pretty good across the band, I didnt notice any loss. The intermediate pipe coming of the cat that goes into the muffler is the stock (1 3/4") size, but the piping from the muffler back is 2" which is bigger.

if your magnaflow cat is 2" outlet and the intermediate pipe is 1 3/4" won't that restrict the flow somewhat from cat to muffler?

p.s. i'm not very experienced in exhaust btw, just asking since i might go with this exact setup...

sigep4runner, have you notice a change in sound after driving it around.. I know most magnaflows take a few miles to burn in but I haven't had any experience with the turbo mufflers..
