3rd swap

So my 93 needs a new rear diff, I bought a used 130k rear end from another 93, my 93 however has an abs sensor in the top of the 3rd, the other 93 has 2 sensors..1 at each wheel. they are both 4.88's or at least I think.. both had the g144 code on the door jam... my question is... how do I make it work, without swapping carriers? Will I have to drill holes? Or... can I just tape the sensor up out of the way, and call it a day? I have no use for rear abs anyway, cuz the rear brakes dont work.

Well you have a few options.

1. Remove the sensor and sell for profit (they can fetch around 30 bucks). Replace it with a brass plug.

2. Snip the wire off and leave it.

I would just snip off the wire. These things are notorious for snapping in half when removing. This usually requires removing the ring gear to get the peice out.

I have switched 3rds a couple times... and never had this prob, I gently pry it out with a flathead till I can pull it out..... So running without it wont matter? If thats the case... I'll just tape it some where and save incase I need it later for a sticker.

ahh, I have never had good luck pulling them out. If you can, tape it up Just run it up the LSPV rod with zip ties and tape it off..

cool...thanks... anyone know why these 2 are different? I have seen many of these runners 93 and up, and have never seen this setup before, could it be that the donor was a limited? I didnt see any limited emblems on it tho. ALso I did notice the master, and abs booster was different on this thing. something yota changed mid year?

Yeah.. whats even worse... the truck only has 130k, and has been sitting in this bone yard for 3 years... it was retired due to a bad tranny... motor and all was still good.... im getting the heads, and everything up for $200

Who retires a fine yota like that because of a tranny??? o well... worked out for me

Maybe now would be the time to put new bearings if needed and a locker if wanted!

Where did you get the 4.88 thirds? Somewhere local?

I'm looking for a set for my truck.
