3.4 Swap Questions

Hi all, I know everyone and their mother asks about the 3.4 swap but I have some specific questions. I have a 1991 Toyota 4x4 3.0L V6 5spd DLX longbed pickup and I have been aching to do the 3.4 swap. I found a fairly complete (wiring harness, computer, front accessories, mass air flow sensor, trans shifter linkage) 2001 3.4L 5VZ-FE with automatic 2wd transmission for $1500 but it is for a 2wd automatic. I know the 2wd part doesn't matter but won't the automatic part matter? I mean don't I need a totally different ECU? Also is that a good price?
Thanks for any info,
Marge

I would contact Offroad Solutons. IMO they are the masters of this kit.

IIRC you may have a problem since I dont think that all the 3.4's had a space in the crank for the pilot bearing... and you would proablly need a different ECU...

I would look at the engine crank if possible. You will need a new ecu. The price seems fair for all of the things that come with it but the ecu and harness will have to be swapped out.

Thanks guys, I think I am going to do it. I am hoping to get some money for my 3VZ-E so hopefully that will offset the cost of the swap business.

about the automatic transmission ecu. does anybody know if you can just trick the auto ECU to think that the engine is in neutral all the time. that way, you will be able to use the auto ECU with a 5spd? I wonder how the people who swap from an auto to manual transmission do it. I'm sure they don't change out their ecu.

Hmm, not sure how to do it. I think it would be worth buying the 5spd ECU though. You can find them real cheap. Check this out assuming the link is not dead:
