3.4 and 5 Speed Swap Questions
I've scoured the forums and can't find quite what I'm looking for. I have a 94 4x4 Auto 3.0 and I plan on swapping in a 3.4 AND a 5 Speed. I have 2 complete parts trucks. A 92 3.0 4x4 5 Speed and a 96 3.4 4x4 5 Speed. The 96 is wrecked but still runs and drives well and has fewer miles than the 92. My question is which transmission I should use? The plan was to swap in the 92 trans and tcase but then I thought it would be cool to swap in the complete drive train out of the 96. Aside from needing to find a gear drive case and buy an adapter from marlin so I would have a RH drop tcase, what else would this require? Any suggestions or opinions on this?

I'm not sure the 96 would be an easy complete swap. (not to mention harnesses, etc) Not only is the 96 left drop, you'd have mucho difficulty with the front axle. Note how the steering shaft drops down inside firewall; the linkage is on the rear of the front axle anyway. Plus fuel tank/filler door/hoses/lines, etc. I had thought about moving my 95 body onto a 99 frame and all. Too much effort. At least IMHO.
You've got all the good stuff; 3.4 motor, the 5spd from the other 2nd gen (use all that for your manual tranny), and so on as the 3.4 swap threads discuss. Good luck.

I just completed a 3.4 swap into my 93 5 speed 4x4. Without a doubt you should use the 92 tranny and t-case. The 3.4 bolts right up, and the rest of the truck can remain stock. You'll use the 3.4 clutch and flywheel, and the 3.0 starter and throwout bearing, as well as the 3.0 motor mounts. If you do that, it literally bolts right in, no fuss.

Keep us updated! I'd love to see the progress! I'm just giddy driving mine around the last few weeks since I finished it. I have a picture of the baffle cutout in my build thread, might offer you some ideas. I went with Off Road Solutions complete wiring harness since I did a JDM swap. It was the most expensive part of the project, but it's literally plug and play. No repinning connectors and chasing wires through OEM harnesses. Well worth it IMO. They have an adapter harness as well for half the price that uses the original 3.4 engine harness, might be worth a look since you have a complete parts truck.

Im thinking about starting a build thread. I feel pretty confident about the wiring, i've looked into the adapter harness. Its very enticing. Without a doubt would save me tons of time. I may just get it to make life easier and for the swap to be as clean as possible.
