Question 3.0 Valve Adjust

I have searched, but with no luck.

Was wondering if anyone had a link or could detail how one adjusts the valves on a 3.0 engine.

I know I they adjust with shims, but am fuzzy on how to measure the settings and where to get the shims in the first place.

I have the heads off the engine right now for various reasons.

well first off you will need an accurate dial caliper and some good feeler gauges.

There is a speicified valve lash for exhaust and intake...i dont remember the ranges but it's covered by the TFSM. When your valve lash goes outside of normal limits you need to reshim.

Typically you measure the valve lash with the feeler gauge btwn the bucket shim and the cam when the cam lobe is pointed directly away from the shim.

Write evertyhing down!!!

then look at your shim chart and figure out what shims will give you the proper valve lash, order put em in and spin the cams a few dozen times, then remeasure the valve lash.

Ive done it on mine. If you need the TFSM lemme know.
