3.0 remove/Install questions

Well I strarted to pull my 3.0 on my 1992 truck with an automatic. I pulled wire harness to find that one set of wires was cut and I cant find other half and would like a little help. Here is a description and a picture of them (wht/red 16ga, pink/green 18ga, brown 18ga, and Black 12ga which has a ground shield with another black wire inside it. almost like a coax except copper strands) these group of wires were streched almost to end of tranny. I hope that is not confusing and I know my picture sucks but I only had camera on my phone. I also found that my O2 sensor back by tranny is not connected to anything and cant find those wires. Here is a little history I bought truck from an friend who did a cheap engine swap on it already I got for hella cheap it ran for about 4months then engine blown up again. This is how I recieved truck blown engine. Any suggestions on wires would be awesome. Also I have toy service manual but not the toy elec manual should I order that? oh and here is another picture of engine so far.. Ha I got to get a better camera...LOL Thanks for the tip on 3' ext to remove engine from tranny these are kind of tips book dont have. I am doing this job alone as of now everyone that said they would help will show up like a calous after the work is done.! ha

in the FSM it should have the wiring diagram, otherwise its a good thing to have! ou can find it online easily, faster and cheaper then ordering it...Does the O2 sensor have a pig tail with plug coming off it or is it just bare?
Download your appropriate manual from here:

Both O2 sensor wires should have a white/red and a brown for the heater section. The front O2 is pink/green and black for the signal. The rear is red/green and white for the signal wire. I can't make out the colors in your pic so... >shrug<

Sounds like whoever swapped the engine didn't feel like reconnecting the rear O2 sensor, or accidentally cut the wires. Not having a CA 4runner, I don't have the rear O2, so I haven't seen where the wires are routed or join the main harness, but I'm sure if you follow the front O2 sensor wires you will find where the other wires are or are supposed to be.

sacramento, ca on recycle place and local machine shop up here in placerville, ca. After doing some thinking I am leaning towards tear down and send out what needs to be machined. I have access to just about anything so it seams logical to just tear motor down at least then I know what I got when done and not throwing new motors in from recycle centers. But still thinking..... would like input.

can you do everything other than machining yourself? If so then definately do a rebuild, you'll know you have a completely fresh motor plus as they say "if you want something done right, you have to do it yourself". Though the warranty may be peace of mind i'd want to know what exactly it covers, only if the engine blows or does it cover small things too? After all you have no idea what kind of life that motor has lived. Do it right the first time or do it again

The vedict is in I am going to do a rebuild I called toy and they factory rings, bearings, and gasket kit was just under $1000. I want factory head gasket not some cheap china stuff. but I might be ablt to save some money on other parts like the rings and bearings. all n all $1000 aint bad to have good engine anyways. Heads will be $565 if they need sent out. so $1600 for long block done right. Thats is still cheaper then junk hard unkown motor. I am going to tear down motor this weekend and see what the damage is. To answer your question silver truck I have all the machinist tools need to check out my block by following the step by step procedures in my fsm. Have I done a Toy v6 no... but I have will to learn and the friend that has done a lot of stuff like this. Goathead666 I will keep track how much I spend and log the endevor.... it should be fun but not fun enough to do it again so I am gonna do it right first time so its my last.
I went to www.engnbldr.com/toyota_30_v6.htm a per this forum recommended in another thread, but my only question is if I buy the rebuild kit he is selling is the head gasket that comes with it good it or should I buy the Toy factory head.

As long as you're willing to get your hands dirty and you've got the tools it sounds like you're in a great position to do it. I've used the enginbldr kit a few times with great results, no problems whatsoever. I would go get the factory headgasket though, they really are the best for our motors. Have fun! If the thought of putting headers on it has crossed your mind this would be the time to do it, get rid of that pesky crossover pipe. With the money you save over the toyota factory parts ~$1,000 is pretty good for a basically new motor. Make sure the block is all good too when you pull it apart
