Dayummm, thats almost as bad as my dads Dodge V10

 

i got 15.8mpg avg. with hwy/local mixed in. there isn't much of highway to speak of here in Los Angeles because they are always clugg'd up when i'm on the road.

there are many things will factors will effect your MPG.
a.) weight, as in my other post, my 94 weights 4280lbs dry, plus my 180lb azz and a full tank of gas, it's well over 2 tons. some 3.0 equipped pickup can be as light as 3300lbs. MPG, duh....

b.) aero dynamics. i have roof rack and 4 lights on top, they are rubbing my MPG every second when the runner runs. mud tires causes greater drag than street tires??(i'm not sure)

c.) speedo. many of us have larger than stock tires, if the speedo is not correctly calibrated, you are not reading the correct distance you travled.
i don't know the exact formula on how to calculate the actual millage, but if my currtent tire, the total distance covered per each revolution is 2% larger than stock, should i add 2% to the instrument reading?

 

Nope, mine gets pretty close to what you're getting.

 

Arround town I get 13.5 mpg and during the summer that best I did was 15mpg.
Should be better after the engine swap

I seafoam regularly and I think it makes a big difference

18-20 MPG mostly city about 30% highway time.
I believe its a 17 gal. tank(someone help me on this pls) and I get about 350 miles never ran it bone dry but thats pretty close.

Also I drive pretty conservatively meaning I dont floor it on takeoffs. when it uses the most fuel.

 

I was averaging 19 mpg +/- and even got as much as 21 on the highway w/o the AC on. I then replaced my 31 tires with 33 and did a 2" lift and my mileage fell to 17.5 to 18 average. I need to change my diffs from a 4.56 to a 4.88 to get my mileage back. As long as you keep your foot out of it you'll do OK. Also stay under 70 mph. At about 70 a little more on the gas pedal and you feel that sudden additional power (OK OK it may not be that much more power) and that really drops your mileage.

This current tank I'm getting about 12mpg city.... I don't do very much highway driving, so maybe like 10% - 15% of every tank has highway miles on it... I'd like to go a little road trip just to see what I get for highway mileage...

Even though my 3.0 4Runner sucks gas like theres no tomorrow, I still love it and wouldn't trade it for anything in the world!

 

hahaha ok i have 7 inches with 37 inch iroks and get about 120 miles to the tank... haha thats all in town driving. i actually do pretty good on the interstate.

 

I SOOOO DO THAT! but apparently i pssed a driver off one time and he locked up the brakes on the interstate in fornt of me at night and scared the out of me! it was pretty badass too!

 

93 4runner sr5 3.0 v6 5 speed, 4.56 gears, 31 x 10.50 x 15 tires, went 251.4 miles on 15.39 gallons mostly driving city, with 50 miles on hwy, had about an 1/8th tank left. mpg city 16.34

 

 

S.S.D.D. Same Story Different Day my 90 Runner 4x4 W/Auto 12MPG my 91RE 4x4 5 Sp. truck better 17MPG and 1980 long bed 22 4x4 14MPG. All of them over 225K on the clocks. I've tinkered with them and others for performance to mileage. I live and drive in harsh country to expect much in MPG. Reliability is there salvation and I respect..

 

I get similar. 1990 4runner 3.0 4x4 automatic running ADD at 210k miles.
18.5mpg going 35-45 commute.
20.2mpg going highway at 65
Still has plenty of power enough to compare to a 2011 TDI volkswagon
Expecting another 200k out of the engine and truck
Anyone still want the 22re?
(Yes my 3.0 is a pain to work on, but its worth it to me!!)

 

I recently covered about 650 miles on a weeks camping trip with my '95 3.slo.

Load was 4 people, 1 large dog, small trailer loaded with about 400-500lbs gear.

Running AC most of the time.

Altitudes 5000 to 9500 feet.

Several long steep pulls where I had to run 4000rpm in 3rd gear to keep 50mph.

Mileage for the whole trip was 17.8mpg.

In better conditions I often see 20mpg.

 

I get similar results under those conditions.

In general, I get
-19 mpg daily commuting going 30-45mph with some traffic lights.
-17.5 mpg going 75 mph on the freeway
-20-21 mpg driving 40-60 mph in the mountains (Colorado). I think my truck senses I'm happiest in the mountains and responds accordingly!
