2wd Transmission Swap Question

2wd Transmission Swap Question
Hi,
1989 toyota 2wd pickup, 250K on the clock, w46 transmission
Transmission is making a fair amount of noise on deceleration - not when cold (assuming the fluid is thicker then)
Looking to replace it with something else - I'm up in Canada so there aren't a pile of wrecking yards with toyota in them to choose from - there are a bunch of tacomas however... wait for it, here's the question..
Would a W59 from a 2wd tacoma mate up to my 22R - would I otherwise only need to swap the bellhousing from the W46? Anyone done this?
Or should I be looking for a W55 stateside instead?
Thanks,

No, the transmissions are not the same nor can yu just swap bellhousings.
The starters are switched on the transmissions, since the exhaust is switched on the engines.

k - thanks - up ihere n canada there aren't many pre '95 pickups around anymore in the wreckers. So I thought that if the W59 was a go, the solution would be simple enough.
I'll check some wreckers out stateside and see what I can come up with

I have a 5 spd out of a 82 model in my 89, the floor had to cut because the shifter sets further back. The speedometer cable had to be changed also . This might be a option if you are unable to find the correct one. I do not know what years bolt directly in ,with out modifying anything.
