So i realized after a weekend of wheeling in the dark and backing up in a 2nd gen 4runner sucks ballz. They are like the demist things in the world and on top of that having a tinted back window, so you cant see the huge tree behind you unless you roll down the back window that probably is already going out and rolls up and down really slow. So in conclusion backing up a 2nd gen 4runner for me takes way to long then it should.
What have you guys done to fix that problem of darkness? Ive put aux lights back there but i broke those clean off so im looking to somehow fix the stock ones to work. Is there a crystal clear lens that they sell for that so more light comes out??? Let me see what you've done!

 

I have seen someone had LED backup lights from tractor supply that looked factory

 

I mounterd my aux lights on the rear spoiler up and out of the way. Can still be tagged off by trees in the wwods but they worked nicely.

LEDs are pretty bright and not a bad upgrade also!

I didn't want to mount lights below the bumper because experience has shown me they usually get broken or twisted. Now granted, these don't provide the amount of light an off-road or KC light would, but the give off a cleaner and brighter light than the ones that are higher in the tailgate. They are also aimed down just a little because of the angle of the bumper.

i like james setup looks clean and factory. could also install some pickup tail lights with the reverse light built in then have 4 revers lights if you were crafty.

 

I bolted two tractor lights (rock lights) to the bumper. It works well and looks alright.

 

I use LED's in my reverse lights which help out alot, but i also plan on swapping out my tail lights for the JDM tail lights off of Surfs that have the tire carrier in the back...then like mentioned in an earlier post, i will have four reverse lights compared to just the 2 on each side of the license plate... I can post some pics after i get off of work....

 

I cant seem to find alot of people with the same reverse light style as me. I swear toyota made them as bad as possible. Their not in the taillight assembly and not part of the license plate tub. They are exactly like the ones on this red 4runner

Where did you get those bad boys. What do they look like

 

My buddy works at a tractor trailer repair shop so they stock them in bulk, he just grabbed me a set.

I have seen them in stores for like 10 bucks a pop, probibly much cheaper in the US. You will have to peice together your own wiring but you knew that already right?

 

I hit mine with a little car paint rubbing compound...it took the oxidation right off. Made them more clear and they look a whole lot better. It was a freebie for me since I had the stuff laying around.

I see how you have the wierd reverse lights that toyota used for U.S. spec 4runners with rear tire carriers...what you can do is if you get a pair of tail lights shown below, maybe you can remove the stock reverse lights and fill it in...i am not sure whats under there...but anyway here are the JDM Stock tailights for 2nd gens....

 

How much do you think those would run shipped to the US?

 

its because of the tire carrier, buddy... the stock location (besides the license plate pan) would not be visible behind the spare tire... its jsut where toyota put them on the trucks optioned with the tire carrier...

now, anyone know where i can find a new set of CLEAR plastics for my reverse light... i ve scrounged all over and cant seem to find them... the previous owner somehow scuffed them, so they will not buff out...

 

The last time i got them for somebody they were $50 for the pair and between $10-15 for shipping...so roughly $65
