22ret Vs. 22re
Hey everyone just trying to get a general consensus on the 22ret vs. 22re? Currently working on 86 turbo and the info Ive come across says these motors are just problem prone betweent the bad turbos, head & head gasket issues. Also if anyone knows the simplist, most cost effective, longest lasting and power boosting remedies for the turbo swaps/modifications? or just keep a traditional 22re?

It all comes down to what you have to start with??
How good your mechanical skills are !!! Turbos can be rebuilt Headbolts can be torqued to 65 foot pounds
People also say the 22REC is prone to head gasket failure.
The bottom line is what do you want to get out of the engine??
Have you checked out 22RTE Trucks I am sure all your questions and more can be answered.

I am working with 86 22ret and 85 22re. The 22ret has a knock, needs a rebuild, I am mechanically incline havent dealt with any turbos though. Currently been researching the ret and it seems like there kind of a headache with all the problems. I just wanted to see if anyone had recommendations on a good long lasting turbo that is worth its value or if the 22re is just a better way to go considering that if they are maintain will last 300,000+.
p.s. I have checked that site and its got some great info.
