I would say start checking the connectors and the wires talking to the coil looking for corrosion or a burnt wire. Make sure all of your plugs are connected, like AFM, started, TBS, etc.

If it is a standard shift, anything taking power from the spark plugs would feel like a loss of power even though the the engine has already died. Just trying to throw out ideas, I don't like messing with the electrical system either.

check the actual rotor and distributor cap. i had a rotor crack, and the engine wouldn't start (cranking was fine, and no check-engine light)

it's a quick thing to check, and cheap to replace if it's bad

Sorry for so long on getting back. Had to go out of town. Just out of curiousity, check the 2 green plugs attached to the coil assembly and the green plug above the Power Steering pump and make sure those pins havent gotten pushed in. I am at a loss of what is holding it down now. Looks like you have covered everything well.

almost but check it

Well I got my CEL to finally flash a code, I don't think my computer was fully reset the first time i tried to get it to flash. code - 43
Which according to the fsm is either the main system relay or an issue with my ecm or? I pulled the main system relay and it click when I give it power and it reads 73 ohms with the voltmeter.
I verified that I have no spark to all plugs with the timing light.
This trouble analisys in the fsm makes no sense or theres typos for this. It says to
  • “open a short in stoner signal circuit”
  • Open or short in IG SW or main relay circuit
  • ECM

I think stoner has to be a typo and they ment starter.
I’m guessing the IG SW is ignition switch and seeing as my starter cranks that should be working right?
My main system relay tested good
So therefor I have a bad ecm possibly and will be finding one tonight to try that.

crap i forgot to test if i had spark from the coil to dizzy with the light.

I did test the voltage at the igniter and the voltage dropped to 9 volts at the power in to the igniter. Power out of the igniter to the coil it dropped from 12 to 9.7 when cranking

i have no spark from the coil to the dizzy so i know its not the dizzy, wire, cap rotor, or coil as i replaced that.

Someone told me to ignor that ecu code as i will flash that after craking several times but i'm thinking i may have a bad ecu.

Hey man I am going through the same exact problem on my 94 p/u with 22re. I have replaced the coil and igniter, still getting no spark from the coil to the distributor. Check out the thread I started on this same topic.. Let me know if you figure it out. I have no clue as to whats wrong with my truck. Next step for me is to pull it all apart and I really do not want to dig into it just yet.

check the wires that connect under the fuse box, especially the ground wire. it will look like it was 2 wires crimped together. i have a thread about it somewere on this site.

Yeah I just put in a new chain kit so the first thing I checked was to see if my dizzy rotor was spinning as I feared this a well. If your chain guides are ˟˟˟˟ you will come off a sprocket.

I'll update this so hopefully future folks with my issue can easier diagnose:

The pickup coil in the distributor was not asking for a signal from the coil/igniter. Therefore the igniter was not sending a signal. When we simulated a signal request to the igniter, the igniter/coil put out spark. Therefore the pickup coil in the dizzy was bad and a new distributor is needed.

Thanks for the help guys.

Oh yeah and my igniter decided to short out. My junk started but it threw out WAY to much spark, coil wire is grounding spark from a few inches away and its erratic. So i needed a new igniter as well. ˟˟˟˟ THIS ˟˟˟˟ING ignition system.
I bought oem parts so hopefully theyll never go out again. I spent 700$ fixing this damn no spark issue and i should have just put in a v8 for that. I'm not a fan of 22re's right now. I don't know why there's such a big following. I've only had my truck for a year and i'm over this motor allready.

Thanks for the help guys.
