22re Timing tensioner HELP!

Might be posted somewhere but I was unable to find it. I have done many 22re's in the past but need some advise.

I am working on a 1991 Truck 4x4 22re 5spd. I took the engine out of the truck, took the head, timing chain cover, and oil pan off and have resealed the pan, replaced the timing chain cover, replaced the chain assy (chain, tensioner, guides, ect.), replaced the head gasket. I have got everything back together, I started with the oil pan and worked my way up. The issue is that now that I have the timing cover on and the head on, I am in the process of putting the cam gear on the camshaft. I can not remember how to compress the timing tensioner in order to get the gear on the shaft. I have tried prying with a screw driver in the center of the gear and into the center of the shaft. Any suggestions or tips??? It is not compressing in at all.

Please any help is greatly appreciated.

I remember using a long 16" - 3/8" socket extension and putting it down to the tensioner and pushing it in, simultaneously pulling up on the chain of the same side as the tensioner to get enough slack to put it on the gear. It was super easy. The main thing is making sure you zip tie the other side of the chain or somehow make sure the marks on the chain and the bottom sprocket of the crank stay lined up.
