22re Timing chain alignment?

Curious If someone could help me align my camshaft after HG install.
The service manual said " place camshaft timing mark between chrome links"
This chain no longer has visible "chrome" links.
Thanks a mill.

You need to be using a new timing set, which includes a new chain. Its much better to replace it the first time, then to have to take it back apart in 20k miles. If that chain breaks, you get bent valves.

However, the chrome links are merely a reference point. As long as the crank is at 0', and the cam is lined up to the match marks, it doesn't matter which links on the chain you use. A link is a link is a link.

So the marks on the cam sprocket should point up also? correct?

The chain marks just make it easier to set it on the cam/crank teeth.

So long as the cam and crank end up properly aligned, it really doesn't matter where the marks are.

While you're at it though, and since its cheap, just replace the timing chain/tensioner/guides.
