22re timing

I just finished putting a new head on my 86 4runner and i am trying to time it. I cant seem to get it to 5btdc and I want to know if I am doing something wrong. My Chilton manual says that I need to short two connections in the service connector of my car, but I cant seem to find that service connector, which it shows near the fuse block. Do I really need to short the connectors, or am I just off by a tooth on the distributor gear?

The test port is on the drivers side for 6 and the one that Chilton is talking about is for the 87 and newer. A paper clip might work better.

These trucks will run with the distributor off buy a tooth. Will need to make sure it is set correct and jumper to set timing. Haynes is a better manual.

Try this video for setting the distributo. Link>>> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9qEQM...ature=youtu.be
