Yes, I've done a search and it looks like this is a common problem with the 22re engines. I had a V6 in my old 4runner and had no problems, however, I just picked up an 88 pickup and its got a tick. The tick increases with RPM's and almost sound like a rod knock. Head Gasket has been done, timing chain has been done. Egine has 312,000kms on it. I want to know if this is something I should worry about?? If it is should I just drive it do the ground and do a swap when the 22re gives up or fix it or swap it now??

 

My 92' runner was doing the same thing until one night it sounded like something blew up under my hood. I lost almost all power. the car moved at a slow crawl atmost. i got it back to the shop( i work at a chevy dealership) and it blew one of my spark plugs outta the block. I rethreaded and reaplaced the plug. Since then I have had no more leaking. The ticking for me was compression leaking out of one oe the cylinders. Can you feel air being pushed out of the block? if so i would have that checked out..

its normal the valve train on a 22re are notoriosly noisey. Even if you get them to be quite you will still hear the injectors ticking away. perfectly normal

 

alright...cool..thats what I though after I read a few posts. Just kinda worried about this engine i guess cause I'll the KMS it has on it.
