22RE stops intermittently

Here's the problem. Sometimes the engine would miss. Only happens while accelerating. I have been chasing this problem for awhile. Last year i got the engine wet and it missed real bad and burned up the cat converter. Fixed the miss fire. I just hollowed the cat out. Engine ran fine for a year. Stared missing again only occasionally. Two weeks ago it stopped all together. Checked it had spark and fuel. Had it towed home. Started right up. Drove it a week no problem. Then while idling at work it stopped. Checked it again had spark and fuel but no start. Left it overnight and then towed it home. Guess what? It started right up. Ugh!!! Any suggestions? Do the O2 sensors need a working converter? Thanks.

O2 doesn't need a cat on the older vehicles, I would check your engine ground, run a second ground wire from engine to frame, and frame to body.

yank your ecu, and check for anything where the solder may have come loose or broke. also check the blade pins, make sure nothing is corroded or unbridged.

reference:

also check your grounds. as far as I know there's only 4, in the engine bay.

It seems to happen more so in the morning on my way to work for the first few miles. Rarely after work on the way home.

Unhappy

Well it died again. I checked the things listed. This time I got a CEL code 51 and 71 about 20 miles before. Code 51 is switch signal and 71 is EGR. I can figure out the EGR issue but what is the switch signal. And do you think this would cause the engine to die and not start? Thanks folks.

Just as an extra, incase it happens again keep an eye out for a bad crank sensor, that's what it sounded like at first
