22RE Problems

I have a 1987 4Runner with a 22RE. A few days ago the motor started to act like there was water in the gas: running rough, not much power going up hills, and bumping. I put dry gas in the tank and it didnt seem to help. When that didnt work i though maybe timing or a fuel issue. So i was just wondering if anyone had this happen or new what i should do. Thanks, Lyndon

How is your fuel filter? Also, how do you know that the new gas is what is going to the injectors? Maybe some of the old gas is still in there.

You may want to replace your old distributor as well? I'm assuming it's the original? How many miles on the truck? Replacing the fuel filter is also another avenue to look at.

I know this sounds lame , but hows your battery contacts?
Start with the basics and work your way to replacing things if need be.
You way try jumping your fuel pump to run full time to check.

I changed the plugs and that seemed to clear up the problem but I believe that the distributor and wires are original so changing out them may not be a bad idea. Thanks for the information, Lyndon
