22re oil in coolant

90 4runner with 22re, engine running fine, not overheating, no white smoke, oil looks decent. Did compression test, all cylinders around 155/160psi. pulled rocker cover, looks clean inside, chain guides still there. The oil in the rad is pretty thick and syrupy... seems like a lot of oil made it into the coolant. Any advice on how to proceed?

Was going to say the Trans cooler could be leaking into the rad but it b being a 5speed it shouldn't be hooked up.
Check the guide on the drivers side and you could have a oil passage meeting a coolant passage in the head gasket.

Check timing chain on passenger side that's where the tensioner is with a plastic guide (well if it hasn't been upgraded to metal). Tensioner lets chain slop which breaks the plastic guide chain eats through the timing chain cover.

Put a long screw driver down on chain to check for slop, might see broken guide if your lucky.

both guides appear to be in place, wouldn't they have to be completely destroyed before the chain could get at the cover?

IDK, could be but that's why I mentioned using a long screw driver to check chain for slop. Also could be the block cracked or HG. Maybe someone with more knowledge/experience than me will chime in.

22re oil in coolant

Wow from the pic it looks as if the guide on drivers side is broken off,it usually comes up further than that.Must be down in the pan now!

Did you drain the oil pan to determine it is fine or just look at the dipstick?

I looked under the oil cap, checked the dipstick and drained the oil. No "milkshake" evidence. If there is any coolant in the oil, it must be very little.

Some one may have used a stop leak product in it at some point, I have seen these make the coolant look sludge like.

Working as a radiator repair man,I have seen nasty looking coolant just from lack of maintenance,and/or stop leak products.

oh..the radiator came from a v6 with a blown hg. The owner of that rig may have used a stop leak product. Could the sludge be coming from just the rad?

Probably just from the rad, but now that ˟˟˟˟ is all throughout your engine and heater core. Did you flush it before you put it in?
