22re ngk gp platinums spark plugs beware!

NGK iridium plugs ... better fuel efficiency and smooth idle. Just as good as the Bosch platinums I ran with no problems. You got some other problem contributing to your idle. It clearly is a concensus that these motors run fine with platinum plugs.

I run the NGK brp5egp plugs. They seem to work great for me on my brand new motor. But my motor is not stock... so that may be why... Still, I would guess it is not your plugs that were "the problem" but... it is good it runs better now. That is all that really matters.
You can never go wrong with what Toyota calls for. NGK bpr5ey ftw!

Double check your wires at the spark plug and dist cab end. Make sure you have a good connection....its easy to have the boot on and not a good connection with the terminal

I would think that a properly gapped plug would work fine, especially a platinum.
Not only that, but i've heard of gapping a little higher, putting in a higher powered MSD ignition, and then advancing the timing a little to make the engine more efficient.
Then again, that was a ford 302.

NGK bpr5egp plugs
I had the same issue. Wasn't getting full combustion and backfires. Put a set of BPR5EY's in and it's great! Wish I had read your thread first! ;B ob
