22re Idle Check

Anyone know of any cheap tools to check RPMS on a 22re? I don't have the SR5 cluster, so no tach. I have an old style dwell/tach, but I only know how to hook it to the old style coils.

I just did a 150k mile service with plugs, wires, cap, rotor, adjust valves....

When I set the timing, I jumpered the terminals and set it to 5btdc.

The truck doesn't "pull" through the gears like it should. I'm thinking I may have set the timing with the idle too low? Any thoughts?

You could be off one tooth on the dist. gear. Is you dist. cranked all to one side to get 5btdc?

Not that big of a problem, I hope. I just need to first verify that idle is 900 rpm while I'm setting the timing and don't know of a tool that will measure my rpms.

Idle should be around 750, unless the sticker under the hood states something different.

Fluke makes an ohm meter that wil also measure RPMs. I used on to set the idle on my truck.

you may check into the auto parts store for an aftermarket tach. autozone has one for $30 and a tune-up multimeter for 55
