Is there a go-to list of things to check when your 22RE wants to idle fast (1250RPM)? When cold the idle seems relatively normal, but as the truck warms up the idle increases. I've seen this happen before, and eventually it seems to just go away. It doesn't drop with throttle blips, and with A/C on it just idles even faster when the compressor is on. Letting out the clutch to load it down to normal RPM, it goes right back to too-high when the load is removed.
if it doesn't drop even when blipping the throttle body by hand, we know it's not mechanical, aka throttle cable dragging, i wonder if there is a vacuum leak somewhere?
Easy fix: Clean the throttle body and all was better. It cleaned up well with Goof-Off and a paper towel. Throttle body After cleaning
An easy diagnosis was to pull the one-way valve & hose off the dashpot that keeps the throttle from slamming shut too quickly. Without the dashpot, a blip of the throttle would bring the idle back down -- there was enough momentum to crush the gook in the throttle body. After cleaning, it worked fine with the dashpot fully connected.
Dashpot
PS: Anyone know the part number for the dashpot? The bellows is torn on mine, and I expect it to fail in time without the dirt protection.
