i just picked up a 87 4runner for $940 2 days ago and have been working on it a bit. i cant seem to locate the fuel filter tho. i looked mid way through the cab thinking it would be like my taco but i didnt see anything.

it's hidden under the intake manifold (EFI versions) on the right side of the block.

ya, its a pain to get to, my 2.7 in the taco is the same way, when i did my EFI swap i put it up on the upper intake for easy access

Yeah, Toyota kinda goofed on that one it's right above the starter mounted to the block with 17mm banjo bolts that are usually very tight and it's a hard place to get a wrench.

If you dont have a body lift they are a real PAIN to get at.

Remove passenger side tire, Remove acess panel inside the wheel wheel (10mm bolts) Now look above the starter and below the intake.
