22RE Code 71
Before I got the truck my dad had it and blew the HG. I got him a good 89 22RE from the junk yard but that started leaking antifreeze and just didn't have the power like the original engine in the 95 had. So, dad had a re-man engine from Advance Auto installed. Everything ran great but the check engine light was constantly on throwing a code 71.
Dad had the EGR gas temp sensor replaced but still the CEL was on. After fiddling with for a while I finally broke down and took it to the shop. Come to find out, some vacuum hoses were routed incorrectly causing the EGR valve to function improperly. After re-routing the vacuum lines according to the diagram everything is tip-top.
So if some of you are getting a code 71 and have already replaced your EGR valve and temp sensor or feel that they still good. Try checking your vacuum lines against the diagram from all data or the FSM. I hope that will help some of you get rid of your CEL. I wish I could say I did it myself, but at least it's fixed now and I am happy!
