22re break in time

well finally, my truck is almost back together after being rebuilt and i wanted to make sure i have the break in procedure right, i have done a bit of searching and want to make sure this is a pretty good method.

1) let the truck idle till warms up
2)take the truck on highway accelerate from 30-55 full throttle and coast back down to 30, repeat ~10 times, to seat the rings
3)drive easy for ~500 miles, not going above ~3300 rpm, avoiding steady throttle
4)change oil at 500 miles
5)continue driving easy not revving too high till 1k miles and change oil again

is that about it? or is there something else i should do to get the best results, any suggestions are appreciated

the engine has been rebuilt with engnbldr parts (who i highly reccomend, teds a great guy to deal with) with a 261c cam and lce headers.

one more quick question, there is nothing wrong with driving around straight off the headers right? i cut part of the exhaust off when i put the headers in and wont be able to get it hooked up for a few days. so other than being loud as hell this wont cause any problems right? i am only doing this for a few days and am keeping my cat for anyone that wants to know

thanks guys

I asked Ted this question, and he gave me pretty much that same answer. He didn't say anything about going above 3300RPM though.

...now to get my truck running so I can actually go do the same thing.

As for the exhaust, I'm actually doing the same thing right now...just with a turbo. It depends on where your exhaust is dumping out, if it's far enough back that it won't get sucked back into the engine you're fine. what do you think straight pipes are?

yeah i kinda guessed on the 3300, doesnt sound too high but what did he say? ill proally email him later, its a bit late right now but yeah,

the exhaust is just off lce headers and no pipes after it so it goes to about the floorboard area, and yes i know what straight pipes are i was just makin sure those wernt too short
