so sad

i think the 2 door model was dis-continued after 1990 or 1991. im sure due to lack of sales or projected lack of sales. you dont see too many 2 door cherokees either. if a 2 door 4runner is what you want, buy it you may not get too many chances. i still regret not buying this silver 1987 sr5 turbo 4runner. it had everything, even the digital dash. low miles too.

I've seen 2 in local junk yards. Early '90 models, I think most were sold in Canada.

I think they did it in 1990 because of the import tax on 4 door trucks.

they were discontinued in 92. same as a 4door 4runner. everything is the same, just two doors. a thread pops up like this about once a month. there are a few people on here who have the 2 doors.

Here is a picture of mine. Searched two years for it before I found the one I wanted. They are definitely hard to find though. I love it... except it's a pain in the butt to get a car seat in and out of.

Like the Gen1 - it used stock front doors.

Unlike the Gen1 - there was a different TAX structure for them.
So they cost $2000 MORE than a 4 door at the same trim level...

Hence they were rare because they were more expensive!

there were terrifs set on the two door runners so they didnt import many to america. i had one waiting for me to go buy and the day before we agreed to go look at it. (its was in San Fran, im in sac) the lady sold it out from under us. she said it was some kid with the same name as me and she thought it was me..... whatever.

OT ... and FYI

hehe, 2 door cherokee's are frowned upon from serious wheelers. I dont know if many of you know but the jeep cherokees are unibodies and the 4 doors have an extra pillar that strengthens the truck.

I dunno, your trivia for the day.

I have a 93 2dr Mist green (or whatever it is) v6 5spd SR5. In Canada there are a few but not a lot and this is the only 93 I have seen in person. I checked into it and there were under 100 sold in 1993 modle year.

I have done a few mods.
